Amitabh Bachchan, Virat Kohli, others feature in ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ anthem video

Har Ghar Tiranga India’s obsession with cricket has been well documented in the past. From Sachin Tendulkar to Virat Kohli, Indian cricketers have always been a source of inspiration for the nation’s young generation. The term ‘Har Ghar Tiranga‘ is synonymous with patriotism, owing to its popularity during India’s victorious win in the 1983 World Cup.

How I’m feeling about this project: Excited! It’ll be nice to create something that uses words and music to inspire people, especially when there are so many different ways you can approach it. And I love that this video will be seen by millions of people who might not otherwise know about it (and if not millions then at least thousands).

In the video, Bachchan is seen leading a group of children in a school assembly while Kohli is seen doing the same with another set.

The song was released on YouTube on August 15 and has been shot across schools in Mumbai, Delhi and Bhopal, where Bachchan hails from. It also features former Indian captain Kapil Dev and retired cricketer Yuvraj Singh as well as several other sport stars like PV Sindhu, Poonam Pandey and Sardar Singh among others.

Kohli, who represents India and Royal Challengers Bangalore in cricket, said he was proud to be part of the video.

The video shows Kohli singing the anthem as he stands in front of his dressing room. Bachchan is also seen singing the song, while playing with a young boy.

“I am proud to have been a part of this special initiative by Virat Kohli and Amitabh Bachchan,” the 32-year-old said on Twitter. “The message is loud and clear — unity in diversity! Unity in diversity!”

Kohli has led India to three bilateral series wins against Australia, England and Sri Lanka since taking over as captain last year after Mahendra Singh Dhoni retired from limited overs cricket following their World T20 triumph in April 2016.
