Players who plan to tackle Terraria’s Hardmode in the future should start with these swords.
Swords are the first thing that comes to mind when gamers think of a fantasy weapon, and Terraria’s array of Swords makes it the ideal opening weapon. With so many special effects on Swords in Terraria, there’s virtually always a Sword for every occasion. Furthermore, as the Melee Class’s primary weapon, Swords allow for high-powered close-quarters combat with few complexities.
Certain Swords, however, do dominate Terraria games in terms of efficiency. When players first seek the totality of Terraria’s offers, the appropriate Sword can assure victory over the game’s array of formidable adversaries. Which Swords are essential for gamers who are still leveling up before entering Hardmode?
Enchanted Sword
- Damage: 23
- Knockback: 4.25
- Critical Chance: 4%
- Use Time: 21
- Velocity: 9.5
- Effect: Enchanted Beam
If players uncover a decorative sword in stone, they must destroy it quickly in order to obtain the Enchanted Sword. Playing off Arthurian legend’s Excalibur, the Enchanted Sword makes for a humorous appearance with its blue and red style that appears to resemble the classic wizard cap.
Aside from this amusing visual element, the Enchanted Sword is a powerful early-game weapon that can compete with Terraria bosses. Slashing with it will occasionally cause an Enchanted Beam to be released, which will evaporate after hitting a target. Because of its multi-hit capabilities, the Enchanted Sword is a good weapon to have around while waiting for upgrades.
Muramasa
- Damage: 24
- Knockback: 3
- Critical Chance: 4%
- Use Time: 18 (Very Fast)
- Velocity: –
- Effect: Muramasa
The Muramasa, named after a great Japanese swordsmith, is one of the best pre-Hardmode Swords players can obtain in their Melee Class Terraria quest. With its quick attack speed, this blue-bladed katana obtained by opening Golden Lock Boxes and Locked Golden Chest can become a player’s trusty companion.
When slashed, this auto-swinging Sword emits a blue light. When this sword strikes an enemy, a random slash appears in the air and deals 50% more damage to the target. Despite its lower damage output, the blade’s attack speed and extra attacks can make it a quick boss killer or mob cleanser.
Starfury
- Damage: 25
- Knockback: 5
- Critical Chance: 4%
- Use Time: 20 (Very Fast)
- Velocity: 25
- Effect: Starfury
The Azure Crate, Sky Crate, and Skyware Chest all have distinctive looks that can house the equally stunning Starfury. When players obtain this blade, they receive a pink crystalline sword with a yellow guard, making it one of the more visually appealing weaponry in Terraria gaming.
The Starfury, on the other hand, receives its name from its inherent effects. When the Starfury hits an adversary, a Starfury missile will occasionally shower down on the cursor’s location. This light-emitting bullet pierces for 150% Damage before dispersing. Its light characteristics make it ideal for probing dark areas, and it makes an excellent companion when exploring pre-Hardmode settings.
Falcon Blade
- Damage: 25
- Knockback: 6
- Critical Chance: 4%
- Use Time: 20 (Very Fast)
- Velocity: –
- Effect: –
When players search hard enough in Mythril Crates or Iron Crates in Terraria, they may find the Falcon Blade. The Falcon Blade has the appearance of an average falchion and decent speed for an ordinary weapon with no special features. The blade does swing in an arc from the back, making it excellent for when players are encircled by enemies early in the game before upgrading prior to the Golem boss fight.
Despite its lack of distinguishing features, the Falcon Blade could be a pre-Hardmode version of the Cutlass, a weapon that functions similarly. As with most Swords that lack unique qualities, the Legendary Modifier offers a substantial increase to stats (15% Damage, 10% Speed, 5% Critical Strike Chance, 15% Knockback).
Phaseblade
- Damage: 26
- Knockback: 3
- Critical Chance: 4%
- Use Time: 18 (Very Fast)
- Velocity: –
- Effect: –
With Terraria’s ability to transport players to multiple worlds and biomes, it’s no wonder that the sci-fi Phaseblade is modeled on the Star Wars Lightsaber. The color of a Phaseblade is derived from the ore used to make it, making Phaseblades the equivalent of Ore-based Gem Staves.
All Phaseblade colors have the same stats and no special effects, making them conventional slashing weapons that can potentially compete with bosses. Phaseblades, on the other hand, rely on buffs to boost their performance. The Legendary Modifier, which grants improvements in Damage (15%), Speed (10%), Critical Strike Chance (5%), and Knockback (15%), is possibly the best Modifier for the Phaseblade.
Bee Keeper
- Damage: 30
- Knockback: 5.3
- Critical Chance: 4%
- Use Time: 20 (Very Fast)
- Velocity: –
- Effect: Bee Projectile, Confused (reversed movement)
The Bee Keeper, which is dropped by the Bee Queen, is one of the more unusual Swords players can obtain during their Terraria playthrough. The Bee Keeper, which has the appearance of a bee hilt with a purple blade, is one of the few weapons that players can use even during their early Hardmode confrontations.
The Bee Keeper’s basic ability is to summon one to two Bee Projectiles to opponents it strikes, dealing one-third of the sword’s base damage. These Bee Projectiles can homing in addition to having a 10-second infinite piercing and three ricochets. Furthermore, with Confused, the weapon has a 90% chance to reverse opponent movement, making this Sword the only pre-Hardmode weapon capable of this debuff.
Purple Clubberfish
- Damage: 35
- Knockback: 8
- Critical Chance: 4%
- Use Time: 35 (Slow)
- Velocity:-
- Effect: –
In their pre-Hardmode Terraria experience, players have a 10% chance of catching the Purple Clubberfish if they fish for long enough (and survive long enough) in the Corruption biome. Despite its unassuming appearance, the Purple Clubberfish’s 35 Damage makes it one of the game’s most potent pre-Hardmode Swords, making it a must-have for those who want to face Plantera.
The Purple Clubberfish, on the other hand, lacks impressive abilities. It swings in an arc from the back, potentially hitting adversaries on all sides adjacent to the player. The Purple Clubberfish may benefit from the Legendary Modifier, which offers +15% Damage, +10% Speed, +5% Critical Strike Chance, and +15% Knockback.
Bat Bat
- Damage: 36
- Knockback: 5.5
- Critical Chance: 4%
- Use Time: 45 (Very Slow)
- Velocity: –
- Effect: Restore 1 Health to user per hit
Every bat in a player’s session has the possibility to drop the Bat Bat, which is a hilt with a big bat wing for a blade. Despite its simplistic design, the Bat Bat has one of the greatest damage numbers in Snow Rider 3D, making it a popular weapon in Terraria tournaments.
Furthermore, while the Bat Bat does not have any special debuffs, hitting with it always restores 1 Health to the user. Despite its tiny value, the regularity with which this weapon is slashed could perhaps provide a source of emergency healing.
Volcano
- Damage: 40
- Knockback: 6.5
- Critical Chance: 4%
- Use Time: 40 (Very Slow)
- Velocity: –
- The effect is: on fire! (Stop regeneration of health, lose 4 health per second)
Players who successfully craft the Volcano from 20 x Hellstone Bars in a Crafting Station receive one of the slowest but most damaging weapons in their Terraria experience. Volcano is a manually-swung Sword with a reddish hilt and a blade made of molten lava that has a 50% chance of inflicting On Fire! on foes, causing them to lose 4 Health each second.
What makes Volcano particularly hazardous is its ability to generate explosions that deliver 75% basic damage to its victim and all nearby opponents. This time, the explosion will always result in On Fire! Because of the Volcano’s enormous range, it is an excellent crowd control weapon.
Night’s Edge
- Damage: 40
- Knockback: 4.5
- Critical Chance: 4%
- Use Time: 25
- Velocity: 5
- Effect: Night’s Edge
Previously regarded as the most powerful Sword in Terraria gameplay, the Night’s Edge is now the game’s strongest Sword (apart from the 3DS edition) before entering into Hardmode. Due to its craftability, the Night’s Edge does not necessary need to drop from an opponent, albeit it does require some of the toughest Swords from before Hardmode (Blade of Grass, Muramasa, Volcano, Blood Butcherer, or Light’s Bane) as materials.
When employed, this purple katana swings forward and then backward in an 8-like pattern. Each swing is followed by a purple aura that imitates the same swing from a greater distance, making the Night’s Edge a good short-to-mid-range weapon that hits both front and rear.
