Starfield is a game about exploring space. We want to travel in style. Or with really powerful weapons. Or in style, with extremely huge firearms.
There are starships in Starfield. How could it be otherwise? True, some of these starships are far more impressive than others. That makes sense; not every space-worthy tugboat is designed to leave an impression. Or anything else noteworthy.
But then there’s prime grav-jumping real estate, uber-powerful gunships, massive-cargo stealth ships, and more. Today we’re talking about the greatest of the best Starfield ships, and we’ll tell you about our favorites – will you tell us about yours?
Frontier
We can’t leave out the Frontier, even if it’s not particularly nice. When we talk about the best ships in Starfield, we allow emotion to get the best of us, even if we’re largely analyzing facts and overall feel. But, truly, the Frontier is legendary. It’s meant to be Starfield’s most iconic spacecraft; after all, it says so on the tin, and it’s what you start with. You can’t even get rid of it for an extended period of time.
The Frontier isn’t the most gorgeous ship in the Settled Systems, but that’s part of her appeal. Many regard Constellation as a bygone era, and their signature craft doesn’t turn many heads either. But she has it where it matters.
Stronghold
The Stronghold will bring you from point A to point B with minimal fuss, even in the most remote (and consequently highest-leveled) reaches of known space. It’s built like a tank, even if it doesn’t hit like one – which isn’t to say it can’t compete with a decent number of enemy craft; it’s just not as lethal as some of what’s coming up on our list.
Piloting a Stronghold with a cargo capacity of 2,360 is like telling the cosmos, “you’re right, I do have valuable loot, and no, you’re not coming anywhere near it.” That alone should entice a number of players looking for profitable delivery. The one significant disadvantage is that you must first achieve Class C in Piloting before you may pick one up in Akila City.
Crimson Fleet Wraith
A Crimson Fleet Wraith will not fall into your lap, and if you wish to steal it via the old battle-and-board tactic, be prepared to contend with multiple Fleet vessels at once. In other words, if you only have the Frontier, getting one of them without going through the complete process of joining the faction and purchasing one for a fair price… is possible, but only just barely.
It’s therefore preferable to obtain a Wraith by signing up. Alternatively, wait until you have something that can compete with it, such as the Aegis or the Shieldbreaker (the latter of which does not make our list, although it is rather good). While the Wraith will be outclassed as you progress into more prestigious spacefaring stuff, it’s customisable enough to stay up for a while, and there’s something to be said for that appropriately crimson-shaded default color.
Star Eagle
The Star Eagle is a really cool piece of gear that you get as a reward for finishing the Freestar Collective plot. We adore its design, especially if you give it a fresh coat of paint in vibrant reds and golds to truly highlight those wings.
With adequate cargo space, you can transport a good amount wherever you go. There’s also room for five crew members, which is plenty for a ship you’re more likely to see in the midst of your time with Starfield than at the conclusion. Combat specs are strong, allowing you to tower over weaker opponent ships or survive long enough to avoid the heavy hitters.
Aegis
The Aegis, on the other hand, is what you’ll want if you plan on fighting those huge hitters around mid-game. This battle-ready spacecraft can be found at Deimos Shipyards. A price of less than 200,000 credits may not appear to be a big deal, but when compared to the most expensive ships in Starfield, we think you’ll agree that you get more than you pay for with an Aegis.
The most astounding feature of the Aegis is its massive reactor. You won’t find anything more durable on the market with this much opportunity for engine modification. We painted ours blue and white simply for fun, and we have to say, it looks great.
Razorleaf
The Razorleaf is your reward for completing the fantastic Mantis quest, which may be accomplished surprisingly early on, given how powerful the spacesuit, helmet, and, yes, starship rewards can be. Her engine is fantastic, but she’s not designed to live long in major scrapyards. But if you can manage the mobility, chances are you’ll figure out how to make it happen.
What genuinely distinguishes the Razorleaf is that it includes cargo shielding. Otherwise, it’s doubtful that you’ll come across anything very soon, so smuggle whatever you like.
Silent Runner
Shielded cargo is fantastic, but the Razorleaf’s cargo hold is only rated 428. All things considered, you can’t fit much in there. This is where the Silent Runner enters the picture. This behemoth has 6,080 cubic feet of cargo space. 6,080 cubic feet of cargo space. Nothing else in Drift Boss even compares. And, once you’ve mastered shipbuilding, you may go ahead and install that shielded cargo mod.
Get your hands on this ultimate space transporter from Hopetown. If making a ton of credits on repetitive resource delivery sounds like your idea of a good time, you’re about to fall in love with the Silent Runner.
Abyss Trekker
When it comes to shredding your foes to bits, the Abyss Trekker is unrivaled. Its 27-level reactor provides enough energy to fuel the most powerful starship weaponry in all of Starfield. The Abyss Trekker has a Ballistic Weaponry rating of over 1,200 and a Missile rating of 96. If these numbers don’t make sense to you yet, here’s the translation: as long as you keep this ship intact, it can and will bring down the heavens.
The Abyss Trekker may be found on Paradiso. Just be aware that you will be throwing roughly 328,000 credits away here.
Starborn Guardian
The Starborn Guardian, a very unique-looking ship that’ll carry you where you’re going in luxury, is a significant prize for completing the main quest in Starfield. It is the only ship that will follow you into New Game Plus. The Starborn Guardian may not appear to be much at first glance, but it has a revolutionary ability: every succeeding completion of the main tale increases its stats by up to six times.
By the sixth round, you’ll have an unequaled powerhouse, albeit it’ll take some serious devotion to get there.
Narwhal
The Narwhal has the highest reactor level of any ship in Starfield. At 36, you’ll have plenty of breathing room when configuring your systems for speed or sorties, and possibly even spare slots for shipbuilding upgrades to make the Narwhal even scarier.
A hull of 2,118 is also out of the question. The default shielding may not blow your mind, but the Narwhal will take a beating unlike almost anything else on the market. It’s our selection for the best spacecraft in Starfield, and you can get it from Ryujin in Neon for a hefty 424,000 credits. Yes, start saving.
